What football collectors come in for
- Rookie cards: the heart of the football hobby. A rookie's value moves with every game they play, so timing matters.
- Autographs and patches: on-card autos and memorabilia cards, the big hits in a hobby box.
- Numbered parallels: color versions stamped with a serial number like /99 or /10. The lower the number, the rarer the card.
- Graded slabs: rookies and stars graded by PSA, BGS or SGC.
When to buy football cards
Prices swing with the season. Rookies tend to peak after a big game or around the playoffs, and cool off in the offseason. If you're collecting a player for the long haul, the offseason is usually the cheaper time to buy.
